FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How are the paper beads made?

The paper is cut into triangles and rolled by hand to shape each bead.  The artisans apply glue to the tip of the triangle so the bead holds its shape.  The various sizes and shapes of the beads are determined by the length and width of the triangle and the thickness of the paper.

Will the colors wear off of the paper beads?

No!  The artisans do not paint or dye the paper used, so the colors will not wear off.

What is used to seal the beads?

The beads are dipped into a water-based varnish and hung to dry three consecutive times.  This provides great durability.

Can I get the paper bead jewelry wet?

Yes!  Although we do not recommend activities that require prolonged and repeated submergence in water, such as swimming, the beads are able to withstand daily wear.  Washing your hands, exercising and walking in the rain can all be done without damaging the jewelry.

What do you mean by fabrics will vary on your plush animals?

We source fabrics for all of our textile products from local markets in Uganda.  To maintain a wide selection, we select over a hundred different fabrics to make each animal.  Depicted on the website are just a few of the fabrics available.

What is used to stuff the animals?

The animals are stuffed with 100% cotton.
