Be Someone's Hero - Sponsor a Child

Listed below are the profiles of children awaiting sponsorship. We understand that sponsoring a child’s education is a significant financial commitment, and the annual contribution may be out of reach for many. This is why Project Have Hope has introduced the Co-Sponsorship Program. You can now choose to sponsor a part of a child’s tuition. You may want to ask your friends and family members to become a co-sponsor with you, or Project Have Hope will find another co-sponsor. We hope this gives more people the opportunity to give the gift of an education to a child in Uganda. If you are interested in sponsoring a child's full tuition, please contact us and we'll be happy to set it up.

As a co-sponsor, you are still able to develop a personal connection with your sponsored child. You will receive regular progress reports, letters, or drawings from your sponsored child.  Please read on to learn more about the children awaiting sponsorship.

My name is Wakiyo Irene. I am 13 years old and the youngest in my family. I have 4 older brothers. My father died when I was young. My mother is HIV positive and readily acknowledges it. She works with other people in the community, teaching them how to stay healthy and the importance of taking their medicines. As a single mother, she works very hard to provide for the family. Although she is healthy today, she knows that one day she may not be there for us and takes great pride in planning for our future well-being. I am very proud of my mom.

My name is Oyella Patricia. I am 11 years old and am in primary 5. I have 6 brothers and sisters.  I like to help my mother by washing plates and looking after the young ones.  I'm a bit quiet, so I like to stay near home. I also enjoy playing netball with my friends.  I like it because it's good exercise.  In school I enjoy English.  It's the official language of Uganda so it's important for me to practice by speaking it.  I'm even helping to teach my mother.

Co-sponsor Patricia's tuition for $150 per year, just $12.50 per month. Or, as a full sponsor, $300 per year will cover Patricia's tuition at Creamland Primary School.

My name is Oyeni Patrick. I am 19 years old and one of the oldest students in my class.  My family often didn't have the money for my school fees so I had to stay home.  I enjoy music, drama and dance in school.  It's a fun way of exercising.  My favorite subject is Fine Art.  I appreciate how things are designed to create something beautiful.  Also, if you are an artist than it can lead to self-employment.  It's difficult to find work, so having such a skill would be very useful.

Co-sponsor Patrick's tuition for $240 per year, just $20 per month. Or, as a full sponsor, $480 per year will cover Patrick's tuition at St. Daniel Comboni's Secondary School.

My name is Amito Dorcas. I am 16 years old and am the oldest child of my father. My mother had three children with her first husband who died of HIV. I have always helped my family take care of my younger siblings, but it is now even more important that I contribute. My mother unexpectedly died after giving birth to my youngest sister. My mother was a ‘business lady.’ Every Friday she sold her paper bead jewelry at the market. In school, I enjoy studying commerce. I hope to be a ‘business lady’ like my mom was.

Sponsor Fredric BakiryagyeMy name is Fredric Bakiryagye. I am 19 years old and one of eight children. I just completed secondary 4.  I am now embarking on a two year course to study tourism.  I am drawn to tourism because I want to visit different places and to learn more about my own country and other countries.  Also, with this degree, upon completion of my studies, I can gain employment and earn a living.

Sponsor Fredric's tuition of $450 per year, just $37.50 per month.

My name is Akanyo Irene. I am 15 years old and in primary 7. I am the youngest of 8 children. My mother never went to school, so life is especially difficult for my family.  It is hard for my mother to find work and it's the responsibility of us children to translate for her, since she speaks no English.  School can be difficult for me because sometimes my family lacks money so then I have to stay home. I keep trying and studying. English is my favorite subject. If I keep trying, then maybe one day I can be an accountant.

Co-sponsor Irene’s tuition for $150 per year, just $12.50 per month. Or, as a full sponsor, $300 per year will cover Irenes’ tuition at Creamland School.

My name is Torach Innocent. I am 13 years old and the youngest in my family. I like helping my mother. I know life is difficult for her since my father passed away shortly after I was born.  My name "Torach" means "death is not good," and was given to me because of my father's passing.  My mom works very hard to support the family. She makes paper bead jewelry that she sells in the market. She also studied tailoring and does some work that way to support the family. But my favorite is the popcorn machine she recently bought. She sells popcorn to local customers, but I get to eat some of the leftovers. In school I enjoy mathematics and science because it’s practical, especially because I hope to become an engineer.
