In Acholi, the name “tim” means she was born outside of the homeland, aptly so, since she was born in Kampala, not the family's native village in Northern Uganda. 

Jane is one of five children who is raised by her widowed mother. Her mom does her best to support the family by selling beads along the busy streets of old Kampala, but still, there is never enough money for even the basic needs for the entire family. 

Jane is a quiet young woman. Her favorite subjects are chemistry, literature and geography.  She dreams of becoming a doctor and opening her own clinic to help others.
