Doreen was born in the village of Pader in Northern Uganda. Her father died when she was just two years old. Her mother was able to send her to school through primary 5. Doreen then joined her mother farming.
At age 16, Doreen married and followed her husband to the Acholi Quarter where she found work in the stone quarry. In addition to working in the quarry, Doreen established a small business selling chips and pancakes. These days, Doreen no longer works in the quarry. Instead, she sells fruits and vegetables from a small stall in front of her home.
Since her education was cut short abruptly, she wants to make sure her children have the opportunity to complete their studies.
